Bienvenue, Welcome, Fáilte, Marhaba, Aloha, Awbisimila, Benvenguda!
To some managers, accommodating different cultures is an insuperable challenge, while for others, it is seen as a perfectly natural state of affairs, a tradition even. Officials in Quebec’s famous ‘Cirque du Soleil’ have learnt to master the value of difference. Mr Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, founding member of Tohu, expresses it in this way, "entertainment and all the activities we offer each have something in common, the certainty that everyone is enriched through contact with one another." Language use is ever evolving, the work environment is transforming, human resource factors are changing, and enriching companies' competitive advantages. The integration of individuals from varying backgrounds has now become a key success factor for many businesses around the world.
Cultural diversity, indeed, is part of everyone’s daily reality, all the more reason then to manage it correctly! Professor Geert Hofstede conducted a study of some 90,000 IBM employees in 71 countries back in the early 1970s. The results he found show that five principle factors differentiate management styles across national boundaries. All well-informed managers should be eager to know and apply these principles in their daily task of managing. The virtual world promotes intercultural connections, to better know ourselves, to tame the others cultures and to perform together, our professionals offer three types of services:
We invite all those who have worked for more than six months outside their home country to send us their contact information and so enable us to evaluate the critical success factors inherent in a successful experience abroad.
